Happy Earth Day! The world’s key economies are gathering today to discuss and announce major initiatives to reduce carbon emissions so as to achieve Paris Agreement compliance. Hear EU Commission’s Ursula von der Leyen here.

The EU released new requirements to increase transparency in ESG investment funds. The Commission also proposed to require companies to report standardized information about their impact on their environment, and social metrics. Both public companies listed in the Union and bigger private companies, (about 50,000) will be subject to this rule. Financial houses like large U.S. banks with subsidiaries in the Union are also covered. These measures aim to help companies finance their transition to greener technologies and help investors identify sustainable investments using science-based criteria. See WSJ report here.
